By the end of 2014, there were 138 million people who were 65 or older in China. 65% of them were age 70 or above, half of them are empty nesters, and 10% of them were seniors living alone. Also, there were more than 80 million disabled people. Those numbers are still growing; however, by the end of 2014, there were only 3.9 million nursing home beds in China, which is less than 2%. Due to the birth control policy, there will be a considerable increase in elderly population in the future.
Inspired by the current situation in China, using the Internet to connect volunteers, the disabilities, the elders, and the public welfare organization may bring positive influences to the society.
For needer, ToCare is a convenient and safe caring service. By simply tabbing a button on your phone, they can hire a nearby friendly volunteer to help you out with their difficulties, like moving heavy stuff, or just to chat with you.
ToCare is a public welfare application that could make an on-demand disabled/elder care more accessible, especially in China. The concept of the design is to provide a broader range of opportunities that connects volunteer caregiver to needer. ToCare is a conceptual design idea for connecting volunteers (giver) and elder/the disable (needer) to improve public welfare for the society, especially in China.
Needer could send out a request to nearby volunteers for helping them out with their issues. Children/family of the elder/disables can also send requests for their families.
